Veterinary Bodywork
The practice of physical therapy and bodywork includes assessing orthopedic and neuromuscular injuries and treating them with massage, therapeutic exercise and other modalities, such as laser and electrotherapy. My aim is to improve your pet’s function and mobility, as well as their flexibility of joints, soft tissues and muscular structures.
My Modalities
Increases blood flow to damaged tissue and cells through microcirculation which is extremely beneficial for post-surgical cases as it reduces & alleviates chronic and acute pain faster and more efficiently than any other modality. Excellent treatment modality for pain and arthritis.
Enhances blood flow, healing & pain relief , stimulates immune response, non-invasive, calming & anti-inflammatory, higher oxygenation of blood, endorphin and serotonin secretion, stimulates the energy production, reduces swelling, prevent degeneration of tissues like nerves, bone/joints and blood vessel.
Lasting muscle relaxation, contraction of muscles , nerve stimulation & regeneration , blood circulation , pain control , builds muscle mass & strength, accelerates tissue healing & circulation.
Magnetic therapy provides an energy regulating signal to the damaged organism/ cells. Helps with nutrient and oxygen absorption, and the excretion of metabolic waste are promoted. Damaged functions are normalized and self-healing powers are activated.
Improves circulation and increases the oxygen uptake in muscles, helping alleviate pain and inflammation in soft tissue injuries. Vibration also maintains bone integrity and density when an animal has little or no exercise.
Benefits include improved blood circulation, oxygen uptake in tissues to speed up healing.
Hydrotherapy or water therapy is the use of water to relieve discomfort and promote physical well-being in a non-weight bearing or minimal-weight bearing environment.
Kinesiology taping works on the fascia which is a layer of fibrous and connective tissue that surrounds muscles & groups of muscles, blood vessels & nerves, binding some structures together, while permitting others to slide smoothly over each other.
Kinesiology taping can be used for:
Pain mitigation
Inflammation
Posture
Facilitate movement
Prolong the effects of myofascial release
Post-therapy – after massage & joint mobilization
Effects of decompression and lifting of tape:
Fluid effect – allow better flow of lymphatics / superficial blood flow.
Mechanical effect – allow better glide between tissue layers.
Neurological effect - decrease firing of pain receptors and provide alternate sensory input. Improve awareness of body position.
My Goals Are To:
- Reduce Pain
- Strengthen muscles to help stabilise and support the joints
- Enhance the healing of the affected bone and tissue due to increase blood flow
- Retrain balance and coordination
- Rebuild cariovascular endurance
- Facilitate early return to function
- Prevent deterioration and further arthritis
- Identify infection or complications
- Maintain and rebuild muscle mass (reduce muscle atrophy)
- Promote muscular development and joint stability
- Maintain joint flexibility
- Retrain proprioception and awareness of body limbs
- Recognise when veterinarian intervention is required
